A joint reception with NECA Future Leaders will be held immediately after the WIN Roundtable at 4:00 pm.

About the Roundtable:

PR Guru Marie Archie will present, Let’s Talk About It: Communication, Gender & Powerful Speech, at this year’s roundtable on

Communication is an essential part of our everyday lives. We spend a large part of our day communicating with our friends, family, significant other, and colleagues. We are told time and time again that having strong oral and written communication skills are essential in the workplace, but how often do we offer insight into these skills and how they function? Not often enough, if at all. The question we need to ask ourselves is: Are we as skilled as we could be when it comes to our communication? Have you ever been in a difficult communication interaction and thought to yourself: “They just don’t understand me and I just don’t understand them!” Have you ever wondered, “Is this lack of understanding my fault or theirs? What’s the cause of this?” If you have, you are not alone. Many times, difficulties in communication can be overwhelming and stifle our desire to engage in important and meaningful discussions.

In this presentation we will discuss what it means to be an effective communicator, to do that we have to examine three key areas:

  • Our preferred communication style,
  • How we can adapt our communication to best serve our goals and relationships, and
  • Our own public speaking confidence

In addition to examining each of these three areas, we will also discuss the Communication Process and identify the multitude of moving parts that can hinder our ability to engage in effective communication. By the end of the presentation, you will walk away with practical tips to assist you in becoming a stronger, more effective communicator.
