Description

The installation, operation, and maintenance of energy storage and microgrid systems require specialized training. This program will discuss a collaborative training effort developed by Penn State and the electrical training ALLIANCE to provide this training.

    David Riley

    David Riley is a faculty member in Penn State’s Department of Architectural Engineering.  His expertise includes renewable energy systems, sustainable building methods, energy efficiency, and smart grid.  He is currently the Director of the GridSTAR Center located at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia which is focused on systems research, education and training, and business development in energy storage and micro grid systems.

    Bernie Kotlier

    Bernie Kotlier directs the development, promotion, and delivery of sustainable energy training for IBEW electricians, and business development programs for NECA electrical contractors in California and Nevada including energy auditing, energy efficiency, photovoltaics, zero net energy buildings, electric vehicles, energy storage, and micro-grids. Bernie has served on a number of advisory committees to the California Public Utilities Commission, and is currently co-chair of the California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program, national co-chair of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program / EVITP, co-founder of the Energy Storage and Microgrid Training and Certification Initiative, and a member of the boards of directors of the California Clean Energy Fund / CalCEF, CalCharge, and the National Alliance for Advanced Transportation Batteries / NAATBatt International.
